The Moscow Victory Day Parade held on 9 may 2011 at Red Square marked the 66th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe (1945). More than 20,000 soldiers and officers took part in the Show, which is watched by President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The Western allies mark Victory in Europe Day every year on 8 May, but the Russia celebrates the event a day later as it was 9 May in Moscow when the Nazi surrender came into force.
