At Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium history was made when the Argentina and Venezuela were out to play the FIFA's international friendly match. It was the first international friendly match hosted by INDIA where people think Cricket more than a Sport. Argentina beat Venezuela 1-0 in the encounter.
Football fans in Kolkata get a golden opportunity to see their favorite player mainly the Argentinean captain Lionel Messi. More than 75,000 fans gathered to watch the match. There was very tight security with many secuirity personal in guard to have safe match. Many players from INDIA from past and present along with coach were there in stadium to witness the match.
In first half of the match it was goalless with no team able to scored but in the 67th min Nicolas Otamendi scored a brilliant header from a corner kick by Lionel Messi to mark the opening. Though in first half both team got chance but didn't utilized it. Argentina was in full flow but unable to score in the first half. After the only goal in match Venezuela's player tried all effort to bring an equalizer but failed.
The match was a part of FIFA effort to improving the Soccer in INDIA. It had already invested about 10 millions dollar over the development of infrastructure, conditions, progress and in search of talents with All India Football Federation (AIFF).
