After a very poor show in the Test matches and a close lost in T20 INDIA was in good position to taste their first ever victory in the current England tour. Unfortunately it was the rain which diminished all the hope. The first ODI match of Nat-west series between INDIA and England was abandoned due to rain.

INDIA in allotted 50 overs was able to put 274/7. Pathiv patel was star of the inning with his 95 runs, unfortunate to miss a century. INDIA started well with a 82 runs first wicket partnership between Patel and debutante Rahane. Kholi with his impressive fifty made good contribution in the middle with support from Raina and Dhoni at end, who scored 30 odd runs each. It was sludgy at the end as INDIA didn't properly utilized the slog overs, hence unable to cross 300 mark.

With a decent target of 275 INDIA stuck two early wicket of England. Praveen kumar took both the wickets. England was 27/2 when rain came and there after not a single ball bowled. Rain didn't allow the match to get in action again and eventually it was called off. It was good chance for INDIA to win here but rain watered the hope.

Though match didn't produced any result but there are many controversies came out of it. First it was Rahul Dravid who again became victim of DRS. Nasser hussain  while told INDIAN player as donkey which was taken seriously by BCCI.
